The excitement has started to build internally surrounding the much anticipated release of, “Hooligan”. The story and art has everyone on the edge of the seat as we near the conclusion of the production process on the new digital comic series coming this fall. Issue #1 is scheduled for October 2012, Issue #2 November 2012, and Issue #3 in December 2012. Hooligan Written by Mike Hall Art by Dustin Evans Hooligan, is a unique mash up of anit-hero, sci-fi, horror and action with a current mid-western backdrop. The story follows Rex, AKA, Hooligan as he searches for his missing wife and two kids. Hooligan believes there is something bizarre and unexplainable taking place in his small town, but nobody believes him. It’s up to him to battle his way through the unexplainable to get answers and restore order to his peaceful hometown. This comic proves the mid-west plains are every bit as treacherous as Gotham or New York…perhaps even more so.”

A couple of days ago, Viper Comics learned that one of their readers, Zachary M., an eight-year-old, was raising money for the St. Baldrick’s Charity by volunteering to have his head shaved. As they say on their website, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. “Zachary had let us know in the past that he was a fan out our books, especially ‘Battle Smash’ and ‘Hero Petz’ and he’d even go so far as to create his own Fan Art for our Editor-In-Chief’s webcomic ‘Cemetery Street.’ When he asked us to help get the word out about his attempt to raise some money, we were completely onboard,” said Jessie Garza, Viper Comics’ President. “You hear all the time about how selfish kids are these days. So when Zachary asked us to help spread the word, we jumped at the chance. We deal with heroes all the time in comicbooks, it’s cool to find someone who takes that on board and tries to get out there and do something good for others. Especially an eight-year-old.” So help Zachary hits his target and go beyond. Simply visit his donor page at http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/508602/2012 and help him help kids in need. IF YOU WANT TO HELP CLICK HERE!

Write up by Meredith Short Being that Halloween is right around the corner and since we have a soft spot for monsters and zombies at Viper, we wanted to share with everyone an awesome anthology with stories and art to match. The cover art was done by our friend David Hartman, and includes a short story in the anthology by Zombie Chuck’s Brian Fyffe. Not to mention bunch of other very talented creators collaborated in the project, such as Aaron Klopp, Christine Larsen, Craig Collins, Glen Brogan, German Orozco, Sean K. Dove, Neil Camera, Smo, Beans and Bueller and Zach Bellissimo. Boys will be boys, right? That is, boys of a certain age (or mental age) will laugh out loud as fist-sized holes are blown through zombies, and cringe/smile as the nerdy brunt of countless jokes finally gets revenge. This Halloween issue of STRANGE KID is a bloody romp that will take you back to the good old days of gorey (sometimes comically so) movies, up-all-night scarefests with friends, and more fun than a funsized bag of candy corn. If your looking for something fun and different check out Strange Kids Comic Anthology #2. Here is more information on Strange Kids Comic Anthology. Strange Kids Club is excited to announce its second issue of the Strange Kid Comix Magazine featuring a hauntingly awesome cover by David Hartman (http://www.sideshowmonkey.com)— character designer and Emmy Award-nominated director for shows like Transformers: Prime, MTV’s Spider-Man and Extreme Ghostbusters. This Halloween-themed second issue of continues the tradition of combining immature, gross out humor with a crazy love for pop culture parody in a spine-chilling new series of stories by creators Aaron Klopp, Brian Fyffe, Christine Larsen, Craig Collins, Glen Brogan, German Orozco, Sean K. Dove, Neil Camera, Smo, Beans and Bueller and Zach Bellissimo. Each short stars the club mascot; Strange Kid, a personification of prepubescent deviant behavior with a penchant for monsters, video games and generally causing as much Halloween-themed havoc to those around him as possible. “This next issue of our SK Comix Anthology finds Strange Kid celebrating THE best holiday of the year: Halloween!” says Editor-in-Chief Rondal Scott. “We’ve got some killer (pun intended) stories this time around that pay homage to the horror genre spanning alien invaders and zombies apocalypses to the 1988 arcade classic Splatterhouse. We’ve even got some special monster masks that readers can cut out and wear!” “Vibrantly illustrated by many of today’s top talents… artist interviews and gooey handfuls of dark humor help round out this release.” -Gary Pullin, (Rue Morgue) on SK Comix Anthology #1 Cover artist: David Hartman Creators: Aaron Klopp, Brian Fyffe, Christine Larsen, Craig Collins, Glen Brogan, German Orozco, Sean K. Dove, Neil Camera, Smo, Beans and Bueller and Zach Bellissimo. About Strange Kids Club: STRANGE KIDS CLUB is a daily dose of adolescent enthusiasm for your inner child.
Well it was some sad news to watch unfold last night on Twitter…Atomic Comics store chain is closing. Over the years Mike Malve has been a supporter of not just Viper but independents. He’s always been great about responding to my emails and or inquiries. Its a huge shock to me to see that Atomic Comics is closing. Mike we wish you the best, let us know if there is anything we can do. Here is exert from The Beat as the news unfolded: Many reports tonight via twitter that the Atomic Comics chain in Arizona is shutting down, and confirmed on an employee’s Facebook page. The four store chain, owned by Mike Malve, was one of Diamond’s biggest accounts and a huge, progressive retailer known nationwide for its signings and aggressive, innovative promotions. Atomic and its logo were included prominently in the Kick-Ass movie, after Mark Millar became a fan following a signing. The four stores were located in Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler and Paradise Valley.
We’d like to thank everyone at SDCC who came by the booth. Book sales were steady, but GOOBEEZ were a SMASH HIT, such a hit Caitlin SOLD OUT completely of all things Goobeez and at the end of the show people were asking for the posters. Even Jack Sparrow loved the GOOBEEZ! We also we’re so jazzed to see Five Senses make mention in USA Today. But as luck would have it the convention did not all go smooth without a problem as we encountered shortage of staff for the booth and some unexpected issues with books and Gadget pins being shipped to SDCC. Want to thank everyone for the patience with the Gadget pins who came by the booth. After the Con we headed to Disney for couple days then to LA for few days to unwind from all the stress and hard work leading up to the convention only to find ourselves in middle of riot on 7/27/11. Maybe next year will be a little less stressful. Want to also thank Dale for sticking things out during harsh moments. VIDEO NEWS FROM HOLLYWOOD RIOT WE SO DIDN’T WANT TO BE PART OF…..
