In the world of the comic all the old Hollywood monsters we know and love are actually real, the Wolfman, Frankenstein s Monster, Igor, the Mummy and more all exist but have faded into obscurity a bit now that the golden days of classic monster movies have passed. With all CGI and special effects now they struggle to find work, reduced to doing menial jobs to pay the bills.

The Fellowship was fortunate enough to obtain a copy of BARON VON FRANKENSTEIN: A HOLLYWOOD FAIRY TALE from Viper Comics. The story was adapted by Michael Moreci based on an original screenplay by Richard Rothstein. The art is by Keith Burns.
Life is slowing down for a group of aging movie monsters (the monsters played themselves in all those movies, of course).

I love the old Hollywood monsters. I can remember back when I was a kid, sitting in my uncle’s living room, waiting for the gigantic satellite in his back yard to turn (anyone else remember those?) so we could watch the monster movie marathons during Halloween. It was there that I was exposed to the likes of Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, the Wolf Man, and the Mummy. I was so fascinated.

Arriving in Hollywood in the 50’s to star in their own movies, Dracula, Wolfman, The Mummy, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Invisible Man, the Cyclops and the first family of horror; the Baron Von Frankenstein, his son the Monster and trusty servant Igor have seen their glory days fade. Just so many unemployed actors, they pass their time playing cards at the Monsters and Magicians Union Hall and dream of being big stars again.

Everything changes when the Baron mysteriously vanishes, POOF! Into thin air after voting against the Monsters on the licensing of their likenesses for TV commercials.

When Igor and the Monster discover that the Monsters are glad the Baron is gone, and have no interest in helping find him, they remember their roles in  the movie” Frankenstein Meets Sherlock Holmes “ and set about solving “The Case of the Missing Baron.”

Tulsa comic-book artist Dustin Evans has launched a new comic-book series, “Hooligan.” The first issue of the digital comic, published by Viper Comics, is available on iTunes and Amazon.com.

“‘Hooligan’ is a Midwestern, antihero, sci-fi epic with a dash of horror,” Evans said in an email interview. “I jokingly call Hooligan a Midwestern Batman, but that’s actually pretty accurate. It’s a story of a real person that has no super powers.”

Hooligan is actually Rex, a father and husband who is struggling to keep his farm afloat during the current economic turmoil.

“When something strange begins happening in his hometown, and everything precious to him is threatened, Rex takes matters into his own hands with vigilante justice with a persona that becomes known as ‘Hooligan,’” Evans said.

LOVE IN THE TIME OF ZOMBIES.

Zombietowne is dying. Zombietowne is dying. The world’s first zombie preserve is about to become as dead as the corpses that wander inside. The top brass at the park are looking for a way to reignite public interest in the undead, or face demise at the hands of their greedy competition. Meanwhile, Quinn Quigley deals with rejection at the hands of the hottest girl in school.

The eagerly-awaited “solution” to Zombietowne’s financial woes arrives at the park, courtesy of the world’s most controversial zombie hunter. Park manager Simon and his assistant contemplate the ramifications the mystery girl might have on their lives; while at school Quinn and his friends contemplate the ramifications of Japanese animation. And Quinn makes a pathetic attempt to maintain a modicum of control and respect.

Feels Like the First Time

After having a fight with his mom, Quinn visits Zombietowne after hours and is unexpectedly introduced to the zombie girl. Finding her irresistibly beautiful, he returns to her cage the next night for a closer look. Unfortunately his actions have unexpected consequences and he may have just sealed for her a fate worse than an unlife behind bars.

Living Dead Girlfriend

Still high from finding his new (undead) love, Quinn quickly comes back to reality when he realizes his actions may have cost Persephone her unlife, and he sets out with a half-baked plan to rescue her from the clutches of Zombietowne. But what does one do with a living dead girlfriend? And how will his decision impact the plans of the park’s Powers-That-Be?
