A couple of days ago, Viper Comics learned that one of their readers, Zachary M., an eight-year-old, was raising money for the St. Baldrick’s Charity by volunteering to have his head shaved. As they say on their website, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. “Zachary had let us know in the past that he was a fan out our books, especially ‘Battle Smash’ and ‘Hero Petz’ and he’d even go so far as to create his own Fan Art for our Editor-In-Chief’s webcomic ‘Cemetery Street.’ When he asked us to help get the word out about his attempt to raise some money, we were completely onboard,” said Jessie Garza, Viper Comics’ President. “You hear all the time about how selfish kids are these days. So when Zachary asked us to help spread the word, we jumped at the chance. We deal with heroes all the time in comicbooks, it’s cool to find someone who takes that on board and tries to get out there and do something good for others. Especially an eight-year-old.” So help Zachary hits his target and go beyond. Simply visit his donor page at http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/508602/2012 and help him help kids in need. IF YOU WANT TO HELP CLICK HERE!

Chad Bowman, the protagonist of FIVE SENSES, is one such character that has not learned from the follies of yesteryear. When Viper Comics commissioned him to pen the chiller, it was an opportunity to put his own stamp on a genre he hadn’t explored professionally before. As expected in horror, there’s violence, but the dialogue is decidedly tamer. “I tried to pull back on some of the language they had in the dialogue, mainly because of my reputation as a kids writer,” he said. Still, it’s not the sort of thing he’ll let his 3-year-old son read. “He’s the reason I write kids stuff. I want to mostly write stuff he can read,” said Black, who made a name for himself in such properties as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Batman: The Brave and the Bold.” TO READ THE COMPLETE INTERVIEW CLICK HERE!

Meanwhile, “Five Senses” continues to generate a buzz since its digital release in September. The Stephen King-ish creeper about a man who didn’t have the sense to come forward after witnessing a violent murder and is therefore cursed to lose his — as the title suggests — five senses garnered favorable press from Wired and USA Today, among others.

“It’s definitely the best reviewed thing I’ve done,” said Black, 32. “I’m astounded at how well it’s been received.

I want to mostly write stuff he can read,” said Black, who made a name for himself in such properties as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Batman: The Brave and the Bold.”

Nightmares In Oz Rob Richardson October 26, 2011 0 “Welcome to Osmann Grove, Kansas. The perfect place for college kids on Spring Break to go for a quiet camping vacation. But Osmann Grove has secrets that go back many generations; and for the campers, this will be a trip that none of them forget. At least the ones who survive the mysterious homicidal Scarecrow will never forget it…” Nightmares In Oz is a brilliant horror comic, especially for those fans of the Slasher Horror genre. I was instantly reminded of classics such as Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Halloween when I read it – which is a good start considering the cult status those movies have gained!
