So this Weekend was Valentines Day weekend and as part of the weekend festivities for the women in my life I took them to Percy Jackson and The Olympians (my little one read the book and has been so waiting for the movie).  Ok let me start my saying I saw the previews online and had not read the books but it looked promising, almost had a vibe as if they were making an attempt at recreating the next Harry Potter series of films.  My little one enjoyed the film but I saw her squirming in her seat towards the end and during some parts of the film which told me it was engaging but not enough to keep her in her seat (she is 8).   Now on the other hand I have not read the book so I was only familiar with what my little one filled me in on.   I think it had lots of potential and there were some cool things but overall it just felt rushed and after watching it I just didn't feel compelled to start thinking about when the next set of films would be out.   Some of elements felt a little forced and

Ok so sometimes I find myself thinking what do comic artists, publishers, retailers do when their not doing comic stuff?  Hmmm... well do they have hobbies? Do they read other content outside of comics?  Well on this I can only speak for myself and most of the time when not directly working on comic content I'm thinking about content and or what we should be doing next. And or thinking about what I need to tackle when I start working on comics again, man there is no end for the medium we so enjoy.  Well for today's blog I decided to share something personal...my Down Time Pass Time art... Preparation, Preparation, Preparation!

Alright we continue busy and seems as the days keep ticking towards the summer....yes I said summer, we work that far in advance and it sounds so wierd when I think about it. Well with SDCC 2010  just around the corner we start to gear things up and still find that no matter how early of a start you get it still won't be enough time.   You can never prepare enough for the biggest convention of the year.  There is just so much to do like what books will you release and have for con, hotels, transportation, schedule creator signings, booth set-up, marketing and promotion for books going to SDCC, scheduling meetings, badges, .....AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! is there no end...but all in all we love it its that time of year we get to go out and meet readers and aspiring talent. And on that note we love meeting creators, whether artists or writers in person and getting feedback from readers is awesome.  We love good and bad feedback we're not perfect always looking to improve things. Ok so I leave things with saying PREPARE, PREPARE, PREPARE...never enough preparation for SDCC.

Comic Inspiration

February 3, 2010 |  by jessiegarza  |  Blog  |  No Comments

Have you thought about what inspires you? What is it that makes you get up in the morning and keeps you moving forward.  I looked up the definition of Inspiration at Dictionary.com and the following is what came back: 1. Divine guidance or influence exerted directly on the mind and soul of humankind. 2. Stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity. 3. An agency, such as a person or work of art, that moves the intellect or emotions or prompts action or invention. I look to many areas of entertainment for inspiration. Sometimes music can inspire, or what about a cool album cover? Old movie posters can inspire and really light a fire within you. Or what about nature? Have you ever just sat and observed things around you? Inspiration exists in all of us, you just have to take time to look. What ever the inspiration seek to challenge yourself on a daily basis to improve your craft.  Never be content or feel that you can't improve because there is always room for improvement. What inspires you?
