IFC Films has acquired North American rights to the thriller “Wake,” written and directed by Chad Feehan. The indie distributor will roll it out under its new genre-centric IFC Midnight video-on-demand platform.

The film, which had its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in March, stars Josh Stewart and Jamie-Lynn Sigler as a couple confronting eerieness at a roadside motel and cafe in the Mojave Desert while driving to a wedding in L.A. Feehan also produced the film with Amanda Micallef and Lea-Beth Shapiro.

“Chad’s film is a really good scare and great fun, and a reminder to all of us that we shouldn’t stop at shady motels in deserts,” said IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring. “We are proud to be working with Chad at the start of what we know will be a long and successful career.”

Feehan, who produced the 2006 indie horror film “All the Boys Love Mandy Lane,” is next writing and directing the crime thriller “Beyond the Pale” through his production company with Micallef, The Fort. The company is also developing the Texas-Mexico border thriller “Devil’s Swing” and co-publishing with Viper Comics the graphic novel “Hell House: The Awakening,” written by Feehan and Ryan Dixon.

IFC’s Lizzie Nastro negotiated the “Wake” deal with Ben Weiss of Paradigm Motion Picture Finance Group on behalf of the filmmakers. IFC also recently acquired the SXSW films “Made in China,” “Sorry, Thanks,” “Cold Weather” and “Tiny Furniture.”
